Urunga Seafood & Takeaway
About This Spot
Stepping into Urunga Seafood & Takeaway, you’re welcomed by the casual, unhurried rhythm of a small coastal town’s favorite local spot. The modest storefront on Bowra Street hints at the ocean’s bounty just a few steps away, setting a tone that’s both familiar and inviting. There’s a comforting hum of activity—families picking up dinner, locals sharing a quick chat, the occasional friendly wave from the team behind the counter—creating an atmosphere that’s warm without trying too hard.
Here, the focus is on honest, straightforward fare done well. The air carries the faint, enticing scent of freshly fried fish mingling with the salty sea breeze, a subtle promise of simple pleasures. It’s a place where generous servings and familiar flavors provide the perfect pause, whether you’re grabbing a quick takeaway or settling nearby to unwrap a meal that’s crisp, fresh, and thoughtfully prepared.
This is the kind of local treasure where the fish is carefully cooked to have that ideal crunch outside while staying tender inside, and where the chips strike a satisfying balance between crispiness and softness. There’s a heartfelt attention to portion size and quality that almost makes you feel like part of the family. Friendly smiles and genuine service lend a human touch that makes each visit feel more like dropping by a friend’s kitchen than just picking up food.
Though uncomplicated at first glance, the menu hints at comforting variety—seafood baskets for when you want a bit of everything, perfectly crisp chicken, or the occasional treat like a burger or ice cream to round out a laid-back meal. It’s a place where tradition feels steady, and the bustle around the counter only adds to the sense that good food shared in good company is what matters most.

Visited at a busy time, waited only about 15 - 20mins. Well worth the wait, we really enjoyed the house fish and chips! Absolutely delicious thanks team. Wishing you a great new year!

Lovely, friendly and the food is amazing . We got 2 x classic fish and chips . The fish was crumbled and cooked to perfection. The chips have the crispy outside with that melt in your mouth centre, absolutely beautiful. The cleanliness of the place was outstanding. The owner of this establishment obviously knows the business of fish and chips with outstanding service with a generous smile. Well worth a visit

We purchased fish and chips for my family of four. It was delicious! The fish was a little darker than usual but so well cooked and fresh. We ordered 3 pieces of fish, 12 calamari and a large chips. While delicious, we couldn't finish it all because the servings were so large. Highly recommended!

Good fresh fish and chips at reasonable prices - especially loved the chips! Hoki was the fish the day when we carried out a family sized order. Options for crumbed or breaded - I’d go breaded next time. Strictly personal preference. Overall a good catch!
